New York, USA – February 22, 2021 – The demand for battery materials with higher energy/power and improved safety is increasing, especially for the burgeoning markets in the energy & environmental industry. On February 22, 2020, Alfa Chemistry Materials, a provider of wide ranges of materials and chemicals, announced to supply battery materials, which can be used to produce organic and printed electronics or for research use. Currently, breakthroughs in materials design and engineering are urgently needed to meet the demands.

Battery materials refer to those materials that can make up the battery. The properties of battery materials decide the performances of batteries and the selection of battery materials significantly depends on open circuit voltage (OCV) of the cell. In general, battery materials can be widely used in the manufacturing of computer, communication and consumer electronic products, battery electric vehicles, and energy storage devices.

“Advances in battery technology have made it possible not only to produce wearable medical devices and portable electronics, but also to electric vehicles and grid-scale energy storage. But efforts are still needed. Increased energy densities and durability as well as higher safety and lowerer cost are the constant goal of the battery industry,” says the Marketing Chief from Alfa Chemistry Materials.

Types of magnetic materials provided at Alfa Chemistry Materials:

Cathode materials: Cathode material can be mainly divided into layered structure cathode materials, spinel structure cathode materials, olivine cathode materials and the others.

Anode materials: Anode materials are grouped into carbon materials and non-carbon materials. Alloy materials such as Si, SiO2, Ge and SnO2, can meet the demands of high energy density.

Electrolyte materials: The state of electrolyte materials can be liquid and solid. Although liquid electrolyte materials are more widely popular in the current market, solid electrolyte materials have a promising application prospect in the design of solid batteries.

Diaphragm materials: The diaphragm material acts as a separation between positive and negative electrodes in the battery and should be able to resist the electrolyte corrosion. Diaphragm materials can be divided into inorganic materials and polymer materials.

Binder: Battery binder is an inactive component in the battery electrode. According to the solubility, battery binder can be divided into water soluble material and oil soluble material. Common binders are polyvinyl alcohol (PVA, CAS 9002-89-5), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, CAS 9002-84-0), carboxymethylcellulose sodium (CMC) and SBR rubber.
